The goal will be to help Americans/Napa Valley residents become "informed" participants in their DEMOCRACY. The Salons will be held at Democrats of Napa Valley Headquarters 1408 Second Street, Napa. Come to an evening of insights, opinion and progressive ideas and ideals. Beginning on Tuesday evening, August 31st and continuing until Tuesday November 2 (to cheer election results together) the Democrats of Napa Valley will present a one hour long film, documentary, or news program which has aired or has been in distribution and we will watch them together. Following the film or audio or live presentation, we'll share our observations about what we've seen and heard. Bill Moyers, the renowned journalist and activist will be featured first in the series in a video of his keynote speech at the Inequality Matters Forum, New York University, June 3, 2004. Entitled This is the Fight of Our Lives, Mr. Moyers defines the history, spiritual and humanistic roots of progressivism. Mr. Moyers is an acclaimed speaker and orator and his vision of progressivism will lift you up and rile you up. This presentation will be followed by a varied menu over the next two months with such programs as "Democracy Now" with Amy Goodman and the Documentary film "Outfoxed," to comedy as in "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, " and other thought-provoking fare. President of Democrats of Napa Valley, Mary Ann Mancuso said," we are so thrilled with the excitement about this and our previous events here at Democratic Headquarters. Last Thursday afternoon, in the middle of the day, we had a standing room only at HQ including some newly interested Napans to welcome Senator Barbara Boxer to Napa." "The hunger for intelligent discourse among the American people is obvious by their book purchases about issues, the success of movies about issues and the respect for commentators about issues," said Marita Dorenbecher, creator of the Salons. Call 707-944-1373 for information about reserving your seat. Tickets are limited. Tickets are $10, $8 for members of the Democrats of Napa Valley. Beverages will be available for sale.
