Call for Volunteers
From DoNV President Mary Ann Mancuso: After spending the day today at the Volunteer Center, I encourage anyone who can, to help out with the [Napa] disaster relief. I showed up today in my boots and work clothes, ready to get muddy, but I ended up talking on the phone all day. Imagine that.

What I learned is that there is still a lot of help needed. My job today was matching volunteers to people with needs, and I can tell you that while Napa has done a good job getting back to business, there are still many people with homes and businesses that need help. They really need groups of people who are able to do heavy and light labor, as well as bilingual volunteers.

What I understand is that the major clean-up will take about 2 weeks, then the needs will change and other services will continue to be needed.

Clothes are needed now, funiture will be needed, but currently there is nowhere to store it. The clothes are being collected at the Methodist Church.

Also, if there is anyone on this list who needs help, you should contact the Volunteer Center.

War Protest in Napa
From John Sensenbaugh of UNCOIL : The holidays are officially over, and a new year has begun...It is time to focus our energy towards our goals, and UNCOIL hopes within the year we will see our troops (at least maybe thousands of them) safely home from the war in Iraq.

And as a reminder, towards that end we have our inaugural war protest scheduled for this Saturday, the 7th. It will be held once again at 3rd & Main adjacent Veteran's Park in downtown Napa from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. This event will also be a forum for those who wish to speak out agains this war. Your opportunity to be heard !!

UNCOIL promises hot chocolate for those attending and at least one minstrel will be entertaining us with his voice and guitar. This is all scheduled weather permitting.

Wear warm clothes, create a sensation with your well worded placard, and BRING A FRIEND.
