Rally to Save the American Dream
"In Wisconsin and around our country, the American Dream is under fierce attack. Instead of creating jobs, Republicans are giving tax breaks to corporations and the very rich—and then cutting funding for education, police, emergency response, and vital human services.
On Saturday, February 26, at noon local time, we are organizing rallies in front of every statehouse and in every major city to stand in solidarity with the people of Wisconsin. We demand an end to the attacks on worker's rights and public services across the country. We demand investment, to create decent jobs for the millions of people who desperately want to work. And we demand that the rich and powerful pay their fair share."
Date: Saturday, 26 Feb 2011, 12:00 PM
Where: Save the American Dream Rally
State Capitol Building
Sacramento, CA 95814

Day of Action US Uncut
10 AM, Sacramento
"US Uncut is a new movement inspired by UK Uncut,
the anti-austerity movement that has swept the UK.
Washington's proposed budget for the coming year sends a clear message:
The wrath of budget cuts will fall upon the shoulders of hard-working Americans....
[T]here is an alternative: Make corporate tax avoiders pay [their fair share].
Enjoying record profits and taxpayer-funded bailouts as the economy slowly
recovers from a financial crisis, nearly 80% of the corporations doing business in the United States pay no income taxes whatsoever here, instead opting to abuse tax loopholes and offshore tax havens.....
It’s time for ordinary Americans to fight back and demand an end to the corporate tax avoidance. Join US Uncut and together let's make corporate tax avoiders pay [their fair share].
Actions are currently planned nationwide and throughout California
for this coming Saturday, February 26th. There are several people from Napa who will be attending (and carpooling to) actions scheduled in the Bay Area.
For more information or to get involved locally, please
contact Joanne Gifford at (707) 758-1699 or USUncutCA@gmail.com.

Rally in Support of Wisconsin Workers!
From our friends at the California Labor Federation:
"WE ARE ONE" – CALIFORNIA ACTION CANDLELIGHT VIGIL
in solidarity with Wisconsin Workers
Today! Tuesday, February 22nd at 5:30pm
State Capitol West Steps, Sacramento
From the flyer:
"Rallies. Crowds spilling into the streets. Seas of people marching together in solidarity. Every day this week, nonstop.
This isn’t happening in Egypt...but in Madison, Wis.
Schools are closed. Workers, high school and college students, community members, religious groups and concerned citizens have dropped their daily lives to rally against Gov. Scott Walker's Draconian attacks on middle-class jobs and his proposal to strip Wisconsin teachers, nurses, social workers and other public employees of their collective bargaining rights.
Walker's immediate attack is aimed directly at some 200,000 public workers—but the brave men and women taking to the streets come from every walk of life and recognize that all working people—public and private sector—are in jeopardy. And they know that if we don't all speak out and stand together, we'll all be targets."
