Democrats of Napa Valley Club (DoNV) Co-Hosts
First Major Democratic Event

DoNV co-Host Reception for Senator Barbara Boxer at Rutherford Grove Winery
Napa, CA, May 17, 2004 — Kicking off the first major Democratic event of the newly reorganized and re-energized Democrats of Napa Valley Club, more than one hundred people gathered at Bob and Sylvia Pestoni's beautiful Rutherford Grove Winery in Rutherford Saturday for a reception in honor of Senator Barbara Boxer and her 2004 campaign for re-election. The event was a collaboration co-hosted by The Democrats of Napa Valley Club, Napa County Democratic Central Committee, Napa County Sierra Club, Bob and Sylvia Pestoni in conjunction with the Friends of Barbara Boxer. In attendance, joining the co-hosts were local Veterans, citizens from throughout the Napa Valley's towns, along with a number of local and State elected officials.

California State Senator, Wesley Chesbro introduced Senator Boxer to the enthusiastic crowd, which included Napa Supervisors Mike Rippey, Brad Wagenknecht and Diane Dillon, Napa Valley Community College Board member Bruce Ketron and candidate Noreen Evans running for the 7th Assembly District. Also in attendance were former Napa Board of Supervisors, Ginny Simms and Sam Chapman, who has worked as Barbara Boxer's Chief of Staff for more than twenty years and Yolo County Supervisor Frank Sieferman, Jr.

"I am pleased to be a part of this great gathering of Democrats," said Boxer. "It is the strength and commitment of these wonderful grassroots organizations that will ensure that I am able to continue working to grow our economy, expand access to affordable health care, and improve the quality of schools." The Senator's remarks were greeted enthusiastically by an energetic crowd wanting to know how to help Senator Boxer and John Kerry win the election in November. Senator Boxer, dynamic as usual, delivered the message the audience wanted to hear. The Democrats can win. Unite together, work together and win together. Underscoring the disparity in the war chest of the Republicans to that of the Democrats she told the gathered Democrats to work to get out the vote and register voters, that in California those working for Boxer are also working for John Kerry. She also took a moment to thank the many Veterans who peppered the audience for all that they have done in serving their country and continue to do in working for the Democratic values of this nation

During her comments at the reception, Senator Boxer unrolled a scroll that listed the 300 most damaging environmental rollbacks implemented by the Bush Administration that caused attendees to gasp and pause at the facts presented. The scroll was more than 100 feet in length and made everyone there understand the dire consequences that leaving the Bush Administration in power pose to the environmental health of California and the nation. Attendees left the event with a toughened resolve to elect Democrats to the White House and Congress in November.

This event highlights the impact and momentum the Democrats of Napa Valley Club along with Valley Democrats are bringing to bear throughout the Napa Valley. While the Boxer Reception was its first major Democratic event, the DoNV Club has already started it's voter outreach at the Cesar Chavez Day function held at the St.Helena Catholic Church event on Sunday, March 28, 2004 and at the Calistoga Cinco de Mayo parade and festival held May 2nd. The Club has a number of voter registration and get out the vote efforts on the calendar plus other events in the works.
