Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!
Here are a few small things you can do to be kinder to the Earth:

REPLACE YOUR LIGHTBULBS
Each bulb replaced will save 150 pounds of carbon dioxide a year and reduce your electric bill. Popular Mechanics reviewed a number of CF bulbs to find which one offered the best lighting. Check out their review here:
http://www.popularmechanics.com
You can purchase bulbs online here: http://www.energyfederation.org

TURN OFF/UNPLUG ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Simply turning off your television, DVD player, stereo, and computer when you’re not using them will save thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide a year. Also, unplug electronic devices you do not use regularly.

USE LESS HOT WATER
It takes a lot of energy to heat water. Use less hot water by installing a low flow showerhead. (350 pounds of CO2 saved per year) and washing your clothes in cold water (500 pounds saved per year). Consider hanging your clothes out to dry!

OFFSET YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
You can purchase offsets from the companies above and they use the funds to support eco-friendly projects

Terrapass
www.terrapass.com
"TerraPass has reduced over 250 million pounds of CO2 pollution by funding clean energy projects..." including windpower and biomass projects.

Carbonfund.org
carbonfund.org
"Your contribution to Carbonfund.org supports climate-friendly projects that directly reduce a specific amount of carbon dioxide emissions...You’ll have the option of supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency, reforestation projects, or a combination."

DRIVE LESS
Walk, bike, carpool or take mass transit more often. You’ll save one pound of carbon dioxide for every mile you don’t drive!
Also, consider purchasing a more fuel efficient automobile; you can visit: http://www.fueleconomy.gov to research the MPG of any vehicle.

CHECK YOUR TIRES
Keeping your tires inflated properly can improve gas mileage by more than 3%.
Every gallon of gasoline saved keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere!

RECYCLE MORE
You can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide per year by recycling just half of your household waste.

PLANT A TREE
A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime.
Plant one in your own garden, or plant a tree through the http://www.americanforests.org

More to follow!!!!
